While climate change threatens California’s economy, natural resources, and quality of life, the agricultural sector in California is particularly at risk from the impacts of climate change. Climate change forecasts call for changes in crop yield and types, new and expanded ranges of weed and pest invasions and diseases, increased flooding, changes in crop pollination, and more frequent and intense heat waves. But farmers and ranchers control part of their destiny: the agricultural sector is a contributor to the greenhouse gases (GHGs) that cause climate change and possesses unique opportunities to reduce overall GHG emissions.
